the shinka river
The Shinka River is a wide, slow-moving river that cuts through the western provinces of the Catpaw world. It’s known for its purple-tinted mist and phosphorescent stones.
Geography
The river begins high in the mountains and flows through Shinka Valley, eventually meeting the sea near the town of Takaru. Along its banks are countless shrines, decaying mills, and overgrown footpaths.
History
Local folklore claims the river was formed from the tears of the Moon Lion. It has long served as a boundary between human and beastfolk lands, though many settlements now straddle its banks peacefully.
Trivia
- At night, the river reflects the stars more clearly than the sky itself.
- Some claim to hear “singing” when standing alone by the river at dusk.
